  • “In June 2019, I felt an unusual lump on my left breast. Being a man, I didn’t know I had any risk of breast cancer, so I did not think too much about it and went about my life.

     

    In July, I went for my medical checkup, which I faithfully do annually at Convergent Medical Services. Dr. Consolata confirmed the lump during my physical exam, and shared all possible causes with me, one of which was cancer of the breast.

     

    This was the first time I entertained the possibility that it could be cancer. Dr. Consolata ordered lab tests, a CT scan, and FNA (Fine Needle Aspirate) whose results would take three days to be released.

     

    After the longest three days of my life, I returned with a friend to confirm my worst fears: I had stage 1 cancer.

     

    Within a week I was in theatre for breast removal and reconstructive surgery. And afterwards, I was put on oral medication and underwent counselling for the next few months.

     

    I changed my diet, exercise habits, and committed more time to relaxing.
